Cal City GP win goes to JCR's Evan Kelly...

In its return to Desert Racing Glory, the California City Grand Prix gave JCR (Johnny Campbell Racing) a one-two punch in the Pro Class. Evan Kelly (right) and Johnny Campbell raced to the first and second spots at the California City Grand Prix out in the So. Cal. desert. Both racers were aboard a pair of race readied Honda CRF450X's.

After a brief 27 year absence....(yeah right) the Cal City Grand Prix resurfaced as a place for desert racers to visit once again. Thanks to the efforts of local promoter, Lou Peralta, who did more than most to get the venue back on the race schedule.....Thanks Lou! Since we literally live nearby, we ran out our backdoor, here in California City, and took it in. FUN IN THE SUN The Cal City motto is something like "Land of the Sun" and that it is....The race track ran around the local airport... and since it is a storage area for older aircraft, there were plenty of small jet aircraft (in various states of undress) scattered about....They did add some nice aerodynamic variety to the backgrounds for taking pics....The track was a mix of high speed straights (mostly) with a few tight sections thrown in.
This was Johnny Campbell's son, Preston, first desert race (14 yr. old). He proudly gets his first finisher pin from Cal City GP promoter Lou Peralta. Nice going Preston....
The course ran about 14 miles, with very fast sections that flowed through the So Cal flora and fauna of this High Desert community. Johnny Campbell Racing (JCR) was on hand and came out with the top bragging rights. A protege of Johnny's, Evan Kelly, was on the gas and took the win over his teammate, and boss, Johnny Campbell. Normally, not a good idea, but in this case, that's exactly what Mr. Campbell wanted. Mentor shoots and scores....Bravo to both racers. For more info go to
