James Stewart was able to grab his first overall victory on the Lucas Oil motocross series at Spring Creed Moto Park in Millville, MN. Stewart's 1-3 moto finishes did the deed, and the Suzuki/Yoshimura/Red Bull pilot has finally notched his first win after a noticeable drought. Meanwhile, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto was forced to work his way through the pack after a crash on the opening lap that left the points leader in 28th position. Villopoto ultimately made his way up to sixth place, which combined with his fourth in moto two put in in fifth overall. Honda Muscle Milks Trey Canard put in an stellar ride with a 2-2 finish for second overall in the 450 class, with Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey carding a 5-1 moto score for third overall, just ahead of Honda's Justin Barcia in fourth. RV2 still has the points lead going into round 10 at Unadilla on August 10th.
Photo by Mark Hector Red Bull KTM's Ken Roczen had a scary fast crash in the 250 class in moto one at Millville, MN. He ended up sitting out the rest of the moto but came back to take second in moto two. However, his 35-2 score left him in ninth place overall, and losing the lead in the series to Millville winner, Honda's Eli Tomac.
It was all Eli Tomac's race at Millville as he swept to a 1-1 sweep at Spring Creek. That was enough to claim the 250 Class points lead from Roczen, who now sits 27 points behind in second. Marvin Musquin showed the value of a consistent pace, as he carded a pair of fourth place finishes to take second overall, with Jason Anderson getting up on the podium with third overall with his 3-5 moto finish. Just placing off the podium was local Millville, MN native, Jeremy Martin who put in a 2-7 moto finish at his home track. Defending 250 champ, Blake Baggett, took his Monster Energy Kawasaki to the fifth spot with a 6-3 finish. Next event. The Unadilla National in upstate New York, this coming August 10th.
